Elixir Outreach stipend for speakers and trainers

Hi folks, Dashbit, Oban and the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation has just announced a stipend for speakers and trainers, to help developers reach out beyond our communities. You can read more about it here: Elixir Outreach stipend for speakers and trainers - The Elixir programming language - please forward it to your colleagues or anyone who may be interested!

I was just wondering — is this part of a broader effort to grow adoption?

Yes and no. There has always been a reasonable chunk of the community focused on adoption. I know people like Sasa, Francesco, and myself (just to name a few recognizable names) have always reached outside. I know of companies who go to other communities, sponsor development of key open source projects, organize meetups, etc. So while this particular initiative is new, I’d say it is part of a constant effort.

For the last question of your post, I would suggest you to start a separate thread, because unfortunately adoption is hard to measure and much of it boils down to personal anecdotes based on location, seniority level, and economics. I wish we had some key metrics but we can’t even track how often Elixir is installed, given all the different ways a person can install it (and CI/automation end up being the bulk of it on the few places we do measure).

Thank you for commenting!

Wow, this is such a thoughtful initiative, really great to see the community making it easier for devs to share knowledge and represent Elixir in new spaces. Thanks for sharing this! I’ll definitely pass it along to a few folks who might be a great fit.

This sounds like a great initiative to support more Elixir content and outreach!

I’ve been curious about how Elixir is trending lately. Are we seeing steady growth in new developers and companies picking it up, or is interest plateauing a bit?
