VintageNet on an Ubuntu Distribution; unable to get an interface from :lan to ‘:internet’

I am doing something kind of odd. Trying to run some Nerves style functionality on an “embedded” device running an old Ubuntu distribution.
I have managed to get VintageNet to manage the network for the most part, but something I am noticing is it is unable to get an interface from :lan to ‘:internet’

I am able to ping devices on the same subnet, but not able to ping any internet facing IPs or URLs.

Not sure what information would be required here, but the device is plugged into a switch and internet works via systemd-networkd when that is active.

I solved this problem, and it had nothing to do with Ubuntu.
I was missing gateway details in my static config.

That said, VintageNet works great on ubuntu as long as all other network managers are disabled and you install net-tools and udchpc via APT
