New dedicated Blog Posts and Podcasts sections

Hi all,

Since we’re running behind schedule with our custom platform we’ve added the ability to post dedicated threads for blog posts directly in this section :icon_cool:

When posting simply add:

  • A description of what your blog is about
  • The URL on a separate line with a line-break above it

When you post a thread in this section the system will add a blogs-by-YOURNAME tag (or podcasts-by-YOURNAME tag in the Podcasts section) to make it easy for everyone else to follow (or mute) your blogs or podcasts.

Please note blog posts should be in-keeping with forum rules (so if it’s something that we wouldn’t allow as a thread then it probably isn’t going to be permissible as a blog post either). Please also note this is to post your own blog posts - if you are posting one you’ve found please post it in the Elixir blog posts you've found/want to share thread.

Alternative ways to post

If you don’t want to post each blog post in a separate thread you could:

  • Post a single thread for your blog then post all blog posts in it (just title the thread something like “Your-name’s Blog Posts”)
  • Post one thread for a series of posts (and then post part 1, 2, 3, etc in that thread)

Can you still post blog posts or podcasts on Devtalk and get them cross-posted here?

Yes

If you have a self-hosted or company blog on your own domain then posting via Devtalk may be worth considering - when blog post threads show on our homepage and portals over there we remove the rel-nofollow attribute - so a great option if SEO is important to you. Devtalk is also a good choice if you want additional exposure or if you want to tag with the portals of other languages or technologies too (eg, html, css, wasm, js, etc) as your blog post will show in those portals as well as get those #hashtags when Devtalk tweets them.

To post on Devtalk just ensure:

  1. You have the same username and primary email on your account here and there.
  2. You post in one of the Blog sections.
  3. You include the blog-post tag.
  4. You include the elixir tag (don’t add the erlang or another BEAM language tag as that will tell the system to cross-post to erlangforums.com instead).
